Director Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is the road trip adventure movie.
Kabir proposed to Natasa and their marriage is fixed. Kabir plans to 3 weeks long road trip with his high school friends Imraan and Arjun in Spain before his marriage. Three friends have long standing pact that each one of them will choose an adventure to perform and other two would have to perform adventure with him.
Then story tells their adventure in Spain, a fight among friends which need to be short out, their personal problems which are needed to be short out. And film shows adventure sports that they need to perform, each adventure is related to phobia of any one of them. They met Laila who is a diving instructor; they take part in Buñol the La Tomatina festival (a festival of Tomatoes fight like Indian Holi) in Spain, Natasha crashes in their road trip for some time, and final of 3 adventure sport which contain fears of all 3 of them.
Story and screenplay of movie is awesome, it is hard to make bad film with such a good storyline. But Zoya's work is not that good in this movie, and make it just an average movie. Movie starts with promise of lots of fun and adventure, but as story progresses it gets more lower energetic even when they are performing adventure sport of high energy. Film has a sad tone around it. Background score though good but is very sad and ruins the soul of movie. It is true that each one have some sad problem to be sorted out in story, but same time they are in an adventure trip with their best buddies, so sad tone in entire movie can not be justified. Funny part that when they were discussing a sad tone used to be played by one TV channel, is also applied to this movie. Imran's poem which does not look very interesting and has been expressed in mono-tonic way is also add up in its sad background, most of the time irritates.
Hiritik who is one of finest actor in Bollywood have done average job, it look like he need to work on his comic timing or it is just because of bad direction. Katrina's character meant to be fun-loving, highly energetic but she is not able to do it, it look like requirement of her character was same as she successfully portrayed in movie 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan', but she failed in this movie to portray her character correctly in this movie.
Overall this movie is an average movie with having great story and written screenplay.
Good points in movie are its great story and written screenplay. But direction is not very good, and movie has a sad tone.
It would be liked by fan of road trip and adventure movie.
Do not compare this movie with other good road trip movies of bollywood like 'Chalo Dilli', 'Jab We Met', ‘Love Express’, 'Dil Chahta Hai' etc, otherwise you will end up as disappointed by this movie.
