Director Sanjivan Lal's Bubble Gum is retro teen age love story. Movie sets in 80s an era when there is no Internet, Facebook, Twitter, cable connections, and not much telephone connections in a small city Jamshedpur. A teen age boy is dealing with his first infatuation, and pressures of school, parents, and rivalry with neighboring children.
Vedant who just enters in his teen age lives with his parents in Jamshedpur India. He has his first crush to his neighbor Jenny. And a neighboring boy Ratan is his rival to get close with Jenny.
Vidur who is brother of Vedant comes after a long time back to home from hostel. Vidhur is mute and partial deaf. Vedant finds difficulty to have company with his brother.
Their parents are however not like other abusive and prejudice parents, but situations make them to put excessive unjustifiable pressure on Vidur.
Vidur find difficulty to handle so much pressure from his first infatuation, rival Ratan, his brother’s companionship, parents and school.
Film tells then what happened, how he deals with these problems, and how situations take turns...
It is sweet story of innocent teen love and troublesome life of teens. Director is very successful in showing this. While some other Indian movies and animation have prejudice that children and teens are utter idiot, these kinds of movie shows true emotions and life of teens.
What good about film are its good direction, story, screenplay, and performances. Film is very successful in showing life of teens especially in the era of 80s.
Though, it feels that at very few places children are smarter than their age.
It will be liked by whom who like to see teen-age love, and problems.
Reviewer Verdict: It is by sure a watchable movie.
