Director Ashok Nanda's Rivaaz is a social drama film. It is also based on a report of UNICEF. This film shares the theme of sub-plot of recently released popular Pakistani movie 'Bol'. It shows the tradition of some community in society which makes females in their families to work as prostitute, while males do nothing except pimping them.
Rahul lives in Mumbai and accompany his friend Amar Singh to his village Bhedia to attend the marriage of Amar's sister Supriya. In the way, Amar sees a young woman Bella and instantly falls in love with her.
Bella belongs to a community where girls after some age have to work as prostitute according to the tradition of their community, while males do nothing except pimping them. Rahul take help of Manghi of same village to approach Bella. Manghi loves Lajjo, who is also a prostitute of their village and daughter of Mukhiya of village. Bella and Rahul met and fall in love with each other. Bella lives with her father Mangatram and mother Paro. Bella still not have entered into the prostitution work, but her father is already decided to sell her to highest bidder. Rahul and Bella's decision of marrying with each other faced strong opposition from the community and family of Bella.
Then what happens tells the movie...
Will they break the tradition of community and marry each other... What will happen of Manghi and Lajjo...?
Film seems a serious attempt to show and make aware about the prostitute tradition exists in some communities in society. Story and Screenplay is good and seems written with sincerity. Film shows problems and life style of such community. Though performance of lead actors are average, and director have done average job. Other characters have done good job. It looks like director have given very less focus on the love story of lead pair, and much elaborative on showing the life style of such community. If love story of lead pair would have been developed then this movie could have done wonder. Songs of movie are very good, but most songs are presented such a way that, it is difficult to realize their goodness.
But story itself have lots of potential and keep engage in film.
Good points in film are it’s socially awareness and engaging story and written screenplay, and performances of character artists. While direction and performances of lead pair are average.
Film would be liked by fan of socially awareness and sincere story films.
Do not expect mindless entertainer movie, yet it is not like serious documentary film and so it can entertain you as well.
Reviewer Verdict: Film can be watched for one time.
