Director Pankaj Kapoor's Mausam is a romantic film. Film has high expectation because it is directorial debut movie of Pankaj Kapoor, a much talented and respected actor. And Shahid and Sonam's are coming back in romantic movie after a long time.
Harinder Singh aka Harry is living happily with his family somewhere in a Punjab village. Then a Kashmiri displaced girl Aayat comes in their neighborhood. Harry and Aayat falls in love with each other. After that suddenly Aayat have to leave village and Harry joined the Indian Air Force.
After seven years they met again in Scotland and felt they still have feelings for each other. Then suddenly one day Harry is called for war in Kargil. Aayat have to leave Scotland and in an accident Harry's left arm become paralyzed. Harry and Aayat lost contacts with each other, and they do not know addresses of each other.
Then what happens tells the movie...
Will they meet...?
Film starts with good notes, with nice village backdrop and simple and fascinating love story. But as it progress film becomes more and more slow. Film is very slow and feels very lengthy. Film shows that the couple moves frequently all over the world from one place to other, without telling how and why they are moving on so much. First half of film has good direction, performances, and songs, while in second half movie completely loose its grip.
It is unexplainable how couple reaches all those places in world where any terrorist attack is going to happen. Complexities have shown in couples life looks like more forcibly included in film and less natural. And in second half most actors seems to have very low energy level. In the sequences of Air Force and Kargil war, all screen spaces and leads are taken by Shahid, it looks sometimes irritating and feel like he is the only one in whole Air Force who is fighting. In his presentation to Air Force unit, he do not look like a commander and lack attitude for the one who is giving leading presentation.
Good points of movie is its initial half with simple and good story, direction, and performances, while second half is quite messy, slow, with unexplainable events, and with very low energy.
This film may be liked by fan of Shahid, Sonam, romantic and serious films.
Reviewer Verdict: Film is easily avoidable.
